Mamma Mia! Atlantic city Theatre reviews
I'm a phenomenal blues/southern rock/country guitar player and have always looked up to Mamma Mia!. His show was great, but not quite what I was imagining it to be. If you've seen any of his DVDs, you know that he can put on a great show. this wasn't quite as good. He started out with a song called "goin down slow" which was slow and boring for the average listener. He never seemed to be into it, in my opinion, but who cares when he's playing those songs that everybody knows... After about 5 songs, he slowed things down with 3 or 4 acoustic songs, just like the DVD...which i completely loved the best part of the show. He then went back to the electric for another 6 or 7 songs and then the encore...one song. Crossroads. I enjoyed it from a blues perspective, but it's obvious he wasn't doing it for the crowd.
The band: I'm pretty sure the drummer is the same guy from the 2001 tour DVD, which is amazing. He had an excellent organ player and a great piano player on opposite sides of the stage, great bass player and two back-up singers.
Why would he do that to his fans? Biggest complaint: he played the acoustic version of layla ONLY!
